Sunday Clothes

As a little girl, my mom took us to church. Usually my Dad had to work so she would get all 5 of us up and ready all my herself. She did our hair and made sure we had on cute dresses - usually some what matching. (P.S. I have no idea how she did it, because sometimes I can't get my 2 kids ready...with Jason's help.) Anyway, when we came home from church we always changed our clothes. "Sunday Clothes" were to be kept nice and not played in.

Sunday afternoons were spent at home or visiting family. We didn't play with our friends. Sometimes we played outside, sometimes we watched movies. Every Sunday we always fought over who would get to eat at Grandma and Grandpa Halladay's... My Mom always cooked a Sunday dinner and we ate together and then we all cleaned up together. I remember that who ever dried the dishes had to also sweep the floors and wipe of the counters - because washing the dishes was the worst job ever!

I have a lot of found memories of being with my family on Sundays. I don't think the clothes made the day any more special.

What do you think? Do you keep your kids in their "Sunday Clothes" all day? Do you stay in your "Sunday Clothes"? Sometimes I feel bad or not a good member of the church because the first thing I do when I get home on Sundays is put my jeans on. Maybe I feel bad because we should be keeping our "Sunday Clothes" on and maybe it's just because I'm not being/acting the way others want me to... (something I tend to struggle with - always being/acting how others want instead of just being myself). But really, I don't need a skirt to think about my Savior.

Anyway, just wondering...

I think it is to each their own. If you feel that on Sundays, your family is doing a good job at keeping the sabbath day holy with or without sunday clothes, that's the most important thing. Maybe some people need that reminder of being in their sunday best, but others don't. Some Sunday's James and I stay in our church clothes for the majority of the day and other times we get in our jeans and t-shirts. I personally only change out of my clothes when I am super tired or not feeling good. I think sunday family dinners are a wonderful tradition and a wonderful way to spend one's sabbath. What a great example you had! Have a great sunday!

I think it is a personal decision as well. I grew up and am still a "change clothes immediately after church" kind of person. But then, I also watch tv on Sundays and some people don't do that, so I say go with what you feel works best for you and your family. :)

Where does it say that we are suppose to keep our church clothes on all day on Sunday? I have never seen any apostle of the church give a talk on keeping church clothes on all day on Sunday. This is one of those things that is not critical to you being a faithful Later-day Saint. What is important is that you are taking your family to church where you are worshipping God and partaking of the Sacrament. Those are the things that will help you gain eternal salvation not wearing your church clothes all day on Sunday.

I like to change when I get home. I usually change my girls out of their clothes too. In my family, we didn't watch TV or movies unless they were Sunday shows. We also didn't play with friends but we did have a nice Sunday dinner with extended family. My mom usually played her Sunday music too--that seemed to generate a good, peaceful feeling. I love Sundays and don't feel bad about changing out of my Sunday clothes at all :D

We grew up and still are change clothes when you get home. I am all for being comfortable. And I LOVE family dinners and where everyone helps clean up after. I have to agree that you don't need church clothes to remember the Savior.

If I let me kids wear their Sunday clothes all day they would be destroyed! Changing is the way to go if you ask me.

I've never been one to stay in my church clothes. My parent's always wanted us to change so we didn't ruin our nice clothes. I've just never thought that it mattered very much... but that's just me :)
