My Ghosts of Birthdays Past

So, here it is....the reason I hate my birthday's....well, part of the reason.

It all started on my 15th birthday. My parents (I'm sure they'll just be so happy to see that I'm putting this on the internet) got in a huge fight at dinner. My Mom was so mad at my Dad that she Frisbeed her plate across the table and it shattered all over him. After that, one of them, I can't remember who, left and my sisters and I all sat on the front porch crying about how they were going to get divorced. (Girls are very dramatic!)

On my 16th birthday I went with my friends, and FBLA, to the Utah State Fair. They all forgot about it. It was NOT fun. When we were eating my friend Alisha turned and said, "Oh yeah, it's your birthday." Then another friend said, "I remembered. I just thought you didn't deserve a happy birthday so I didn't say anything." OUCH!

On my 17th birthday I stayed home with my family....so that I wouldn't get my feelings hurt again by my friends. My Mom got me a cake from the store and my Grandma and Grandpa Halladay came over. After I blew out the candles my Mom told me to tip the cake so she could take a pictures. Well, because of the plastic tray and the paper under the cake....IT FELL OFF ONTO THE FLOOR! Wonderful!

Birthday #18 was held outside...We didn't want any more cake accidents. My Dad brought the cake outside, tripped coming down the steps, AND DROPPED THE CAKE ON ME! Duh!

I'm pretty sure I've blocked out what happened for birthdays 19-21 because I can't even remember them. I'm guessing it was something to do with Noah, if any of you remember. (It must have been bad!)

For my 22nd birthday I was on my mission in Argentina. I don't think anything bad happened...I was just far from home and missing my family. My Mamita (the sister we paid to cook for us) made me a WONDERFUL cake! So, that birthday was okay.

I was home for my 23rd birthday. Yeah, my family forgot! My Grandma Halladay was really sick so my parents were helping take care of her. (They are great examples to me of taking care of the ones you love...but that's a post for another day.) My sisters all forgot. I remember taking a bath that night when my Dad finally called to see if something was wrong. After I told him, and we got off the phone, my sisters all started calling. My Dad must have called and reminded them all.

On my 25th birthday, I was right in the middle of a my first miscarriage. Enough said.

On my 26th birthday we were living in Murray. The 15th of September is, and will probably always be, the deadline for Corporate Tax Filings at Jason's work. So, he is very busy. He stayed late to work. When he came home I was already in bed. In the middle of the night I woke up so upset at him and I was just crying and crying. He didn't get me anything for my birthday. (I'm sure he will also be happy to know I've shared this with all of you.) My feelings were hurt pretty dang bad. Oh, well. I've forgiven him. (Love you Babe!)

So, there you have it. The reason I do not look forward to any of my birthdays. I asked my Mom the other day if she would mind throwing another plate at my Dad. Maybe that would help reverse the cycle. Or maybe I could drop a cake on someone. Who knows!

Well I think those are some good reasons to not like your birthday. I hope this year is better for you. Go take a day and pamper yourself! My Mom has taught me to buy your own gifts then you always get what you want, but then I know it isn't the same as getting a gift.

Dang girl! I really hope your birthday is way better this year! That's a good idea for your mom to throw another plate at your dad, I think it would work!

Oh my gosh! I'm so sorry! I'm glad you can laugh about it all now, but that's just rough. Hope this year is a good one!

You're birthdays sound awful but thanks for posting them because I really needed a laugh. If it makes you feel better in 4 years of marriage and 2 years of dating Chris and I have never spent my birthday together!

Those are some good reasons to hate birthdays. I hope today this one is better.

Maybe it could be fun to make a tradition of throwing cake (at people?) outside of course.
